I'm Cindy Garber Iverson and Rosehaven Cottage is a creative inspiration and digital fine art photography studio I started in 2007.
I'm a techie geek, photographer, designer, and collector of vintage paper ephemera. Through my work, I have perfected the art of digitally restoring and enhancing images found in antique publications and on vintage paper ephemera. Using the Adobe Creative Suite, a hi-res scanner specifically designed for scanning art, and a Wacom Cintiq digital tablet, I make images come back to life--even though many of the rescued images are usually well over 50 years old and weren't originally intended to have survived this long.
I often digitally combine my own photography with digital scans from my personal vintage paper ephemera collection of old sheet music, travel brochures, magazines, greeting cards and books. Sometimes I'll combine a photo with my own watercolor or digital illustration. There's almost always a vintage or retro quality to my work that gives it a sense of nostalgia. I like giving a nod to early 20th century design, typography and color palettes.
Here's some fun facts about me:
✿ Back in the day, I was introduced to a first-generation Mac when a parent brought one home from work... it rocked my geekie-BASIC-coding-high-schooler brain... and I never looked back.
✿ I've been creative since I could pick up a crayon (my mom took home movies to prove it).
✿ I've been in love with cards and stationery since I was very little... I'm talking 2 years old. My mom took home movies of me on my 2nd birthday being more interested in reading the birthday cards than opening my birthday presents.
✿ I shot my first roll of film when I was four with an old Kodak brownie my mom let me use on a family vacation (there were a lot of pictures of a neighborhood cat).
✿ Those first birthday cards (mentioned above) were the beginning of my vintage paper ephemera collection that now contains old sheet music, travel brochures, magazines, greeting cards and books (it is a wonderful glimpse into the early to mid-twentieth century).
✿ I'm a color nerd who loves the colors 'robin's egg blue' and 'ballet slipper pink' far more than is probably healthy for an adult woman.
✿ I adore vintage-looking photos and illustrations of pastries, candies and desserts but don't like eating them all that much.
✿ I love walking around an old-fashioned candy shoppe but usually don't buy anything (the same thing happens in any fancy bakery).
✿ I'm a 'texture bloodhound' sniffing out cool surfaces to photograph and then I bring them back to my computer in my studio and turn them into great digital elements.
✿ Discovering unorthodox techniques in Photoshop is one of my gifts (at my blog at www.RosehavenCottageStudio.com I share tutorials on some that I've perfected).
✿ Preserving history (particularly printed history) drives me in my work and is one of my core passions.
✿ My TV 'guilty pleasures' are Project Runway, Top Chef, Bones and Doctor Who.
✿ I enjoy capturing moments of 'photographic serendipity' and 'life vignettes'--small fleeting moments that would be lost unless I captured it with my camera. Those are the moments that make up the sweetest life memories for me.
✿ I always strive to look at the world with the same eyes that I did as a child--to be awed by the little things all around me that can easily be overlooked.
